Hey guys,
you guys probably remember how the chat would always post things twice when sending, so I finally sat down for a day and fixed it.
It's supposed to be working properly now, but I did notice that some messages disappear randomly after sending the message, so I'd like you to test the chat thoroughly and identify similarities and differences in the behaviour and report them.

On a side note, is anyone willing to write some texts for the website? I noticed that the placeholders I wrote are still up. They absolutely do not fit into the theme of our mod, but the team has barely any time to spare in order to prepare actual descriptive content for the website.

Hello everybody,
it's been quite some time since I last updated this forum. Prior it was running version 1.6.3, meaning that I'm actually like over half a year behind the update schedule. But now, after two crashes, two months of downtime and plenty of errors we are back with the latest version of MyBB. Just wanted to tell you.

The past few months a couple of comments caught my eye on our moddb page. The following line in particular:


“really it shouldnt take 6 years to make a mod its not like you made a new game its a mod so whats taking so long”




What’s taking so long?
Just to get things straight: Anh and I already pointed out Blamtroid started this mod in 2008 and the team has been decreasing ever since. I think we started with aproximately ten people and at the moment we only have four. Besides that we’re quite busy handling college/university, which consists of more than just partying and drinking beer.

Short history
So what is this week’s blog all about? Well before I can tell you, we’ll need to review some important decisions we made in the past few years. The first important decision made, was about the gameplay. We didn’t want to “just” add new vehicles and units to the game, we wanted to give you a whole new experience. Around the end of august (2011) Anh and I separately came up with various gameplay tweaks. Call it coincidence or a planned act, fact is that these ideas would drastically alter the gameplay. After some concessions, we decided which elements we wanted to use and which not. Since september , we’ve been busy trying to get these ideas/tweaks into our mod. And as you continue reading this blog, the skirmish part should be well on its way to completion.

Grand stage 2
In blog 11 I showed you the new and refreshed Balaho, next grand stage you ask? Reach!

Variation
Reach was a challenge to do in terms of geography, as we know various sites on Reach. Just like Earth, Reach features various elements with mountains as a returning characteristic. Wherever you look on Reach, there’s relief. So I took that as a starting point for this map and I ‘worked my way down’ to seas and deserts. A funny thing I did is adding a layer of fog on the higher end of the map. So the higher you climb, the foggier it will get. Of course I adjusted the fog level in such a way that it will not ruin the gameplay. You’ll have to zoom out a little before you actually see it. But besides seeing the fog you can also experience it, as it affects other elements on the map as lighting for example. Time for a screenshot!

Of course I am showing a nearly propless version again, don’t want to give away the base positions yet!

Progress
Although this map hasn’t been finished yet, the amount of completion is farther than you can currently see in this blog. You may notice the various dots in the back of the map, those are actually some trees and rock props I already placed. I have not been able to make some new screenshots yet and I am wary of giving away the base positions. What fun is it, to already know where your enemy is hiding…

A little over a year(!) ago we showed the first screens of a skirmish map I made for Balaho, the Unggoy home world. It featured various mountains, a city and a wide plain in front of it. A lot has happened in this year and I had some time to polish up my ‘mapping skills’. It had been a while since I properly constructed a challenging map and I was definitely not satisfied with the result shown above. “I’ve been doing this for 6 years now, I have to do better than this”, or so I thought.
